Roaring Fifty, Autorized Dealer High Flow Fan

The Roaring Fifty Engine Project

Well why Roaring Fifty?
The answer is easy.......... Walter the owner of this engine will be fifty this year.

So we decide to make him a roaring engine for its Oval Bug.

Here we go:

Lets have a look inside!

We starting with a new AS41 Engine Case

My Favorit Crankshaft for HP street engines
SCAT forged CW Crankshaft

It`s a 2027cc Engine 78,8mm Stroke 90,5mm Bore

Spotfacing all Case Screws for thick washers

CSP Oilpump Cover with pressure valve
Heads are based on VW 043 Castings with 40x35,5mm Valves

Upside down

Setting the axial endplay

Layout for the Roaring Fifty engine!
Bergmann High Flow Fan with 44 IDF Webers

Zündpunkt is  Autorized Dealer for Bergmann High Flow Fan

We have tested the Bergmann High Flow Fan on our own engines and made thousands of Kilometers with the Bergmann High Flow Fan.
Pulling a Caravan over the Alps in summer, Looooong distance runs, hill climbing etc.

Now we can tell you that this cooling system is very nice for your Volkswagen.

Coffee Bean final assembly, Roaring Fifty Project

Final Assembly of the Coffee Bean Engine

87mm AA Pistons, I prefer the AA Pistons over the 87mm Mahle
Reason:
Better Pistons, not out of round, Pistons have the same weight and I like the honing of AA

Heads on, Oil coiler in place, JPS custom pushrods for sure!

Nice Powder Coated Tins

The last step was done by Pädi!
Good Job, Looks beautiful

Only a few parts are missing and than we can start this nice street engine on our engine test bench and do the break-in

Next Engine Project:

Roaring Fifty, or Walter is hungry for power

Coffee Bean Part 2 and other Infos

Happy New Year to all my Blog followers!

This is Part 2 on the Coffee Bean Engine Project:

Maschine work already done!
Combustion chamber have a new shape

Volumetric measurement the combustion chamber after machining!
I will do it again after finishing manual work

Rocker work:
Oil groove for better Lubrication , Swivel Ball Adjusting Screws,
bore honing

Modifed NOS VW Rocker Shaft

Compare
German rocker above
Late style Mexico or Brazil rocker below

I don`t like the Mexico Rockers!

Modification on the intake Valves, Backcut with radius for better flow

It`s not done in 5 minutes ....

Measuring the Valve Spring for this engine
Seat preassure is 38,5 kg
At full lift it is 92kg with 1.5mm shim

With the light lifters, JPS Pushrods, modifed rockers and light retainers you only need single springs for up to 6200rpm

Some other Projects are done!

Westfalia Spezial is this nice Typ 4 engine called:
96mm AA Pistons
NOS 412S heads machined for higher comression with 41mm / 34mm Valves
and a good torque camshaft

This is a nice upgade when you rebuild the engine!

This is another Super Stock 1641cc this time with dual port heads.

Coffee Bean Engine Project

The Shortblock is already together
In this post we want to take a look inside ....

Starting with an Industrie engine Typ 126 that has a slighty more than 3h run

                                                             Looks like new!

Crankshaft is a NOS German forged F-Typ
Dynamical balanced for sure!
Flywheel and Clutch too

The wrist pin of the AA Piston 87mm is too heavy

27g less than the AA, we take this one

An average weight Typ1 rod

556g in total and very good balanced, wit ARP bolts

Hmm let my remeber: 4x27g - wrist pin, 4x59g - rods, 8x22g -lifter

That`s 520g lighter than stock :-)

Here it is in the Case

The other goodies for the Coffee Bean:
Silverline Main and Double Thrust Cambearing
Clevite Rod Bearings
CB Ligtweight Lifters with 72g

As for all HP Engines
Thick washers and SW15 M8 nuts

The Pistons Need some honing because the wrist pin are too tight

Fabian`s idea for a Christmas present

A wine bottle holder, like it!

Super Stock Singleport

Not everyone is looking for the ultimate high-performance engine for its air-cooled vehicle.
Most of you  just want to ride with your well maintained Oldie with the regualar traffic. The problem is always when you need power for an uphill or to overtake a slow vehicle.

Than you may want to have a Super Stock Engine like this?

Looks completly like a Stock but ....... more powerful.

The reason to rebuild this engine was a loose Flywheel
This destroyed the crankshaft, the engine case

Broke all! Top piston rings

Broke two pistons...

Time for a new set of single port heads
This one are milled for an adequate compression Ratio
the intake is matchported to the EMPI SP Manifold

Longblock wit 87mm AA Piston and Cylinder a Camshaft for better torque and power.
Be careful with Singleport Heads and Camshafts, only a mild Duration will work with this!

In-out pump and an additional oil sump will help to keep the engine temperatue in the right place on a hot summerday in a T1 :-)
